Dosojin Fire Festival

Nozawa's most famous destival, held on Januray 15th every year, is a must see cultural experience. Here fire eruots in a designated area of the village where thousands gather to celebrate and pray for the well being and good fortune of the village, and to ensure a plentiful harvest for the coming year. This festival begins in the early evening and rages through most of the night with fire, food, Japanese sake and good cheer being the main focus of the evening.

Hot Springs

First discovered in the 8th century, Nozawa Onsen's wealth of natural hot springs are just the right place to relax, rest and rejuvenate. With over 30 natural baths in the village, the Japanese have been coming here year round for centuries to reap the therapeutic benefits.

Near the centre of the village, Nozawa has one unique spring called "Ogma", used daily by local cillagers as an open kitchen to cook and boil their mountain vegetables and egges. This is a great to see and experience some of the local customs.
