Furano, Hokkaido

Resort Guide
Located in the Daisetsu-zan national park in the centre of Hokkaido, Furano Ski Area is one of Japans most famous resorts having hosted 10 FIS Ski World Cups and 2 FIS Snowboard World Cups.
Furano has a huge variety of terrain making it suitable to enthusiasts of all levels: from perfectly groomed long wide cruising runs, to a world cup course, and steep ungroomed areas. There are two sides to Furano Ski Area; Furano Zone and Kitanomine Zone. The ski area is well known for its amazingly light dry powder, bluebird days and views across Furano City to the live volcano of Mt. Tokachidake across the valley.

Downtown Furano is so close to the ski area that you can walk there in 20 minutes or take a very short bus ride. The town is largely untouched by outside influences and here you will discover a feel for the real Japan. In winter there are regular cultural events put on by locals. Furano City has a population of 25,000 and is brimming with local bars and restaurants waiting to be discovered. In short Furano is a ski and cultural experience rolled into one.
Furano Ski Area’s interchangeable lift pass (conditions and restrictions apply – please enquire for full details) allows skiers to enjoy a day of skiing at the neighbouring resorts of Kamui Ski Links or Tomamu Resort.
Many visitors also take a day trip to the off -piste paradise of Mt. Asahidake, which offers the opportunity to ski on a live steaming volcano.
