5 Reasons to go Night Skiing at Coronet Peak

There’s an almost endless number of reasons to try night skiing in Queenstown. It’s great cardio, you’ll get a great night’s sleep afterwards, people on the chairlift won’t see you fall over so easily because it’s dark… but we don’t have all day, so we’ve trimmed that endless list down to just five of the most important reasons to try night skiing at Coronet Peak.

1. Value

Paying for your ski passes as you go? You won’t find a better deal than this. Night skiing at Coronet Peak isn’t just a new way to experience skiing, it’s an absolute bargain. Night skiing passes can be had for just $65, around half that of a full-price day pass. So yep, that’s two nights’ skiing vs. one day for the same price. Or one night’s skiing plus dinner, or a round of après ski drinks, or a night at the movies, or… you get the idea. It’s a steal!

2. More free days to explore Queenstown

Skiing is an amazing way to spend any day. But it takes time, usually at least half a day (plus extra including travel and defrosting time). Here are three things you can’t do with your days when you spend them up a mountain falling on your bum: go clothes shopping in Queenstown’s boutiques; explore some of NZ’s best walking trails; go on a winery tour. When you go night skiing, you’ve got more free time during the day to do whatever tickles your fancy, and in Queenstown, there’s a whole lot more to explore than just the ski slopes!

3. DJs and party atmosphere

When the sun goes down, the tunes start pumping up at Coronet Peak, with live DJs getting the party started every Friday, and treasure hunts and giveaways on Saturdays. Corona Fridays mean great drink specials too. The party starts at 4pm and runs till 9pm— the perfect way to kick off your big night out in Queenstown; there’s a night ski bus back to town too so you don’t need to worry about designating a driver if you want to let your hair down!

4. Watch the sun set from the ski field

If you’ve never seen the sunset in Queenstown, you’re in for a treat. And there’s simply nowhere better to see it than from the top of a mountain! Get your cameras ready as the golden hour draws in, because the view across to the Remarkables as the last lashes of sun light wash over its peaks is something you’ll remember forever. Magic.

5. You won’t find it anywhere else in New Zealand

There’s so much to enjoy about skiing at Coronet Peak… it’s the most convenient ski-field in Queenstown, there’s a great range of runs, the epic views… but above all, it’s the ONLY place you can go night skiing in New Zealand. This is one activity that has to be on your Queenstown bucket list!
